11% Pecan Mud Cake Imperial Stout
Round two! Our second beer for the Omnipollo showcase features another flavoured Imperial Stout, Noa Pecan Mud Cake. I've had this one before, a Dugges brewery version which was interesting to say the least. This one was brewed at Amsterdam based De Molen, so let's see what we get.
Another massive dense pour, jet black and thick with minimal head this time. I poured a little too vigorously this time, leaving minimal room between the pour and the rim of the glass. My fault! I'm not a fan of the "Iceman" pour, I want to be able to swirl for maximum aroma.
The smell is almost unbelievable, the pecans and brown molasses leap out of the glass - its absolutely ridiculous. Red wine, dark chocolate and heavy booze summon visions of a luscious mouthfeel.
Pecan mud cake is exactly correct, the sweetness seems to be toned down since last years edition, with some roasted bitterness on the back end. The mouthfeel is big and cloying, seems to stick your jaws together. The sweetness arrive sin full force with Pecans, dark brown molasses and an almost savoury edge.
This was another bottle shop purchase, but these are available online in various spots like www.honestbrew.co.uk
